Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi low starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi low provides an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals battling for the high hand, and a few shooting for the low hand.
